This past weekend competitive hardball cricket returned in St. Kitts with the Opening of the St Kitts Cricket Association Youth Cricket bowling off with the U15 competition.
The tournament that features four franchises got underway with a battle between Hawks and Pelicans in a 35 over showdown.
Hawks won the toss and chose to bowl first, and it seemed to be a good decision as they quickly removed the top order of the Pelicans.
The Pelicans innings however was restored by Kejorn Wattley who consolidated and rebuilt his side’s innings stroking 80 from 95 balls as his team slowly built a competitive score.
Although only one other teammate made into double figures, he was assisted by the 55 extras bowled by the Hawks to propel the Pelicans score to 165 all out from 31.5 overs.
For Hawks Zaquiche Alford collected four wickets for 28 runs.
In response, Hawks comfortably won the encounter losing one wicket in the process.
The openers for Hawks set a solid foundation for the run chase with Zavio Henry hitting 29 and Devaundre Moses with 20. When Henry lost his wicket, the Hawks were well on their way to victory. Hawks Captain Deantre Drew replaced Henry and cracked 47 from 38 balls to lead his side to a nine-wicket victory.
They were also assisted by 71 Pelicans extras.
The games continue this weekend with Jets facing off against Volcanoes.
Keeth Arthurton T20
This weekend also saw the resumption of the Keeth Arthurton T20 Tournament with Newtown And Molineaux/Cayon both winning against Lions and Rising Stars respectively.
Newtown in the early Sunday game that was reduced to eight overs per side due to rain cracked a whopping 144 from their allotted overs. Mikyle Louis cracked a quickfire 70+ for Newtown as they smoked the Lions bowling all around the Conaree Cricket Center.
In response, Lions could only muster 54 from their 8 overs.
In the second game, Molineaux/Cayon won the toss and chose to bat against Rising Stars and after some early troubles were able to post 122 for 6 from their rain-shortened 16 overs. Captain for Molineaux/Cayon Larry Audain hit 59 from 42 balls as he was the main talisman in their batting line-up.
In their turn at the crease, the young Rising Stars team got to 89 for 2 from their 16 overs.
