Windies women’s captain, Hayley Matthews, played exceptionally well, scoring an unbeaten century as the Windies defeated the Bangladesh women’s team in the first One Day International of the ongoing series at Warner Park in St. Kitts.
Bangladesh batted first, managing a competitive total of 198 runs for 9 wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Akter was the top scorer with 42 runs, while Khatun contributed 40 runs. Dottin took 3 wickets for 40 runs.
Matthews, supported by the aggressive Qiana Joseph, raced toward the target with confidence. Joseph scored 70 runs before being dismissed when the team total reached 163. However, Shemaine Campbell stayed with Matthews to secure the victory, finishing the innings at 202 runs for 1 wicket. Matthews ended the match with a score of 104 not out.
The second match of the series will take place at the same venue today, starting at 2 PM.
