A group of promising young cricketers from Nevis were celebrated during a brief but meaningful ceremony held on Tuesday, March 17, at the VOJN Primary School Grounds.
The event, hosted by the Wendell A. Wallace Cricket Academy (WAW), recognised players who have been selected to the Leeward Islands Under-15 Cricket Team.
Chairing the ceremony, Ms Janesha Daniel welcomed attendees and extended best wishes to the young athletes as they prepare for regional competition. She announced that the WAW Academy would provide EC$200 to each player to assist with travel expenses.
Additional financial support was also provided by Mr George “Bowtie” Chapman, who donated US$50, and Hon. Alexis Jeffers, who contributed EC$100 to each player.
In his remarks, Hon. Alexis Jeffers encouraged the players to give their best at all times, reminding them to remain focused and resilient. He urged them to learn from any setbacks and strive for improvement in every match.
The players from the WAW Academy selected to the Leeward Islands Under-15 squad are Kamari France, Deshawn James, Demari Prentice, Nicklos Hero, Ryan Marchand, and Karese Farrell.
Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the group, Kamari France expressed appreciation to the academy and sponsors for their support, and pledged that the players would represent their community with distinction both on and off the field.
The ceremony underscored the strong community backing for youth cricket development in Nevis, as young athletes continue to earn opportunities at the regional level.
