The Over-40s Masters Cricket World Cup will be held in Guyana from October 17–31, with a 29-man provisional West Indies squad already selected.
The squad is headlined by former West Indies players Ramnaresh Sarwan, Denesh Ramdin, and Lendl Simmons, alongside other experienced campaigners such as Devendra Bishoo and Narsingh Deonarine. The final squad of 16 to 18 players will be announced by the Cricket West Indies Masters Association.
Carefully selected, the team blends former international cricketers with strong regional talent, with the aim of maximising home advantage in Guyana.
Spin bowling is expected to be a key strength. The squad features several experienced spinners, including Bishoo, Neil McGarrell, Sunil Dhaniram, Antonnel Atwell, Rakesh Maharaj, and Deonarine, all well-suited to Guyana’s traditionally low, turning pitches.
Additional support comes from Imran Khan of Guyana and Imran Khan of Trinidad and Tobago, giving selectors multiple slow-bowling options across the regions.
The batting lineup is anchored by Sarwan, Simmons, Sunil Dhaniram, and Sewnarine Chattergoon, providing a solid and experienced core. Further all-round support is expected from former West Indies wicketkeeper Ramdin and Rayad Emrit.
Team Manager Daniel Sadeo expressed confidence in the squad’s balance and readiness.
The West Indies will be aiming to go one step further after finishing as runners-up in last year’s tournament in Pakistan.
Competing against up to 16 international teams, the side is expected to face major cricketing nations, including Australia, England, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and South Africa.
“We’ve selected experience with a plan. Guyana rewards discipline and spin, and we have that in abundance. Fitness will be managed, but cricket intelligence is paramount. This squad knows how to win on these tracks,” Sadeo said.
