The West Indies produced a remarkable comeback to defeat Sri Lanka by an innings and 217 runs in the opening Test of the ongoing series.

Sri Lanka made a solid start after winning the toss, posting 308 all out in their first innings.

In reply, the West Indies found themselves in trouble at 168 for 5 before captain Roston Chase and Amir Jangoo combined for a record-breaking 401-run partnership that completely turned the match around.

Jangoo led the way with a magnificent 233, while Chase narrowly missed out on a double century, scoring 194. Their efforts propelled the West Indies to a commanding 626 for 9 declared.

Sri Lanka’s batting then collapsed in the second innings as they were dismissed for just 101. Veteran fast bowler Kemar Roach claimed four wickets to join the prestigious 300-Test wicket club.

The emphatic victory gives the West Indies a 1-0 lead in the series.
