Zimbabwe have strengthened their preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 with the appointment of West Indies fast-bowling legend Courtney Walsh as a bowling consultant.

Walsh, a veteran of international cricket with vast experience playing in subcontinental conditions, has already begun working with the Zimbabwe squad as they gear up for the global tournament, which runs from February 7 to March 8.

Zimbabwe have been drawn in Group B alongside Australia, Sri Lanka, Ireland and Oman, setting the stage for a challenging campaign.

The appointment comes as Zimbabwe make their return to the T20 World Cup after missing the 2024 edition, having failed to qualify through the Africa Qualifier in 2023. This time around, however, there was no stopping the Chevrons, who secured qualification at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2025, finishing alongside Namibia.

Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni said Walsh’s inclusion was a strategic move aimed at enhancing the team’s technical depth, particularly within the bowling unit.

“Courtney Walsh brings unparalleled experience and insight at the highest level of international cricket, especially in fast bowling,” Makoni said. “As we prepare for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, it was important to bring in someone who understands what it takes to succeed on the global stage.

“Courtney’s knowledge, professionalism and ability to mentor players will be invaluable as we sharpen our bowling resources for the challenges ahead.”

Walsh, one of the most respected fast bowlers in the history of the game, enjoyed a distinguished international career with the West Indies and is widely admired for his leadership, discipline and sportsmanship.

Zimbabwe will begin their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against Oman at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo on February 9, before facing Australia at the R. Premadasa Stadium on February 13.

With renewed confidence and the guidance of one of cricket’s greats, Zimbabwe will be hoping to make a strong impression on their return to the world stage.
