David “Big Papi” Ortiz was rushed to the hospital in a black Rolls-Royce owned by a wealthy friend, who said he first thought the gunfire was fireworks.
“It did not sound like a shot,” said Eliezer Salvador, according to the Dominican Republic newspaper Diario Libre.
Salvador, also known as El Shey, owns a sports betting business and said he was with Ortiz when the 43-year-old retired Red Sox All-Star slugger was shot at an outside bar in the DR on Sunday night.
