Defence Board to Meet On Nevis for the First Time on Saturday, May 26

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, May 26, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – The St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Board is expected to discuss a number of pertinent security matters and other issues surrounding the advancement of the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF), when it meets at the Four Seasons Resort on Nevis today, Saturday, May 26.

The members of the Defence Board are Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, who serves as chairman; Attorney General, the Honourable Vincent Byron; Commander of the Defence Force, Lieutenant Colonel J. Anthony Comrie, and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Mr. Osmond Petty, who is the Secretary of the Board.

The Defence Board, which will be meeting in Nevis for the first time, will hear presentations from a number of persons with respect to certain security matters.

The Defence Board is a requirement of the St. Christopher and Nevis Defence Force Act, Chapter 19.14 of the revised laws of St. Christopher and Nevis. Its primary function is to provide support in the running of the SKNDF, which comprises the Infantry and the Coast Guard. The Board has oversight for all the activities of the SKNDF.

Subsequent to the meeting, Prime Minister Harris and the Premier of Nevis, the Honourable Mark Brantley will make a special visit to the Prison Farm on Nevis.
