Someone once said that when you care for someone living with dementia, you lose them little by little, over and over again.

You lose them when they receive the diagnosis, as they progress through the different stages of the disease, when they require treatment, and ultimately when they pass away. This experience is known as “ambiguous loss.”

As dementia progresses, the person may experience significant physical and cognitive changes and may eventually forget the names and faces of the people they love. In the later stages, they may become bedridden, have difficulty moving, and may no longer be able to eat or drink without assistance.

There will be people who scroll past this post because dementia has not touched their lives. They may never have experienced what it is like to have a loved one who has battled, or is still battling, this devastating disease.

To help raise awareness about this cruel disease, I would like to ask my friends to share this message on their pages today.

A special thank you to everyone willing to share this message and help raise awareness during Alzheimer’s Awareness Week. 💜
