Department of Constituency Empowerment Donates Mobility Assistive Equipment to Support Elderly and Disabled Community Members Across St. Kitts.

On Tuesday 8 July, the Ministry of Environment, Climate Action and Constituency Empowerment’s Department of Constituency Empowerment (DCE) in partnership with the Department of Ageing within the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Ageing and Disabilities continued its mandate of community upliftment, this time through the delivery of mobility assistive equipment to improve accessibility for elderly residents and persons living with disabilities in communities across the island of St. Kitts.

The Joseph N. France Hospital, in a gesture of generous collaboration, provided the Department of Constituency Empowerment with thirty (30) wheelchairs, thirty (30) walkers and fifteen (15) commodes taken from a larger donation made by the Republic of China (Taiwan) through the Cao Zhong Zhi Foundation which were handed over on 13 May 2025.

Tuesday’s exercise facilitated equipment deliveries in the form of:

A wheelchair for a resident of Carty Alley, Newtown

A walker for a resident of Ottley’s

A wheelchair for a resident of the Saddlers Home for the Elderly

A wheelchair for a resident of Verchild’s

A wheelchair for a resident of Market Street

A wheelchair for a resident of Bird Rock

A wheelchair for a resident of New Guinea

This initiative is part of the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to empowering vulnerable groups and enhancing the quality of life of citizens in need. The Department of Constituency Empowerment, together with the Department of Ageing – joint partners in this effort – aim to continue work in the coming weeks to ensure that the donated equipment is distributed equitably and effectively across all communities.

The Ministry reaffirms its dedication to the promotion of inclusivity and social equality through the provision of tangible support to communities throughout our Federation.
