Douglas re-elected National Political Leader of the SKNLP, three new faces on executive committee

Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 21, 2018 – Delegates to the 86th Annual Conference of the opposition St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) have reaffirmed their confidence in the leadership of the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.

Dr. Douglas, the Federation’s longest serving prime minister and currently Leader of the Opposition, was re-elected unopposed to continue to serve as National Political Leader during the business session on Saturday 19th May.

The new Deputy Political Leader is Hon. Marcella Liburd, who previously served as Chairperson.

The new National Chairman is Dr. Terrance Drew.

Diana Williams-Humphrey, was re-elected unopposed as National Secretary; and Karen Crossman as National Assistant Secretary.

The new National Vice Chairman is Meshach Alford, also elected unopposed.

The three Nominated Members are Miss Thamesha Fyfield, Mr. Javon Liburd and Dr. Marcus Natta.

Designated officers representing the 8 constituencies as well as Young Labour and Labour Women will be named later.

The post of Treasurer is now an appointed position. Holder of the post is Shavon Douglas.

The sister organization, the St. Kitts-Nevis Trades & Labour Union (SKNT&LU) also has representatives on the National Executive of the SKNLP.

In the 2015 General Elections, the Labour Party lost two St. Kitts seats it held – St. Christopher 1 by 4 votes and St. Christopher 4 by 26 votes.

The SKNLP remains the largest single party in St. Kitts and Nevis, gaining 11,897 votes to the Hon. Shawn Richards’ Peoples Action Movement (PAM), 8,452 votes; Hon. Vance Amory’s Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) 3,951 votes; Hon. Joseph Parry’s (Nevis Reformation Party (NRP), 3,276 votes and Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris’ People’s Labour Party (PLP), 2,723 votes.

Seatwise in the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly, the PAM holds 4 seats, the SKNLP, 3 seats, the CCM, two seats; the NRP and the PLP, 1 seat each.
