Dr. Wycherly Gumbs Passes

Charlestown, Nevis – News has been received of the passing of Rev. Dr. Wycherley Gumbs, a Methodist Pastor who served with distinction, in Nevis for many years.

An Anguillan by birth, Dr. Gumbs commenced his career as a teacher, before venturing into Ministry.

He served in Nevis during the period 1982 to 1988 and doubled up as sixth form lecturer on Caribbean History.

Rev. Gumbs as an intellectual completed graduate study with a Masters of Divinity; Master of Education and Doctor of Philosophy degrees.

He was also at one time, an integral part of the Government of the United States Virgin Islands, serving in the Department of Human Services and Education and was also a lecturer of Politics and Caribbean Studies, at the University of the Virgin Islands.

He wrote several books, dealing in such topics as religion, social commentaries, plays and poetry.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Stella,  and his children Wycherley Jr; Mark; Elliot and Angela.

The Methodist community on Nevis and by extension, the wider Nevisian community, also share in his loss.
