“Early Detection Saves Lives”

Urology Associates, under the leadership of Dr. Dwayne Thwaites is pleased to announce the hosting of its 7th annual free Prostate screening Drive at “OCCASSIONS” on January 17, 2015.
Under our motto “Early Detection Saves Lives”, our goal is to ensure that the male populace in the country is provided with adequate information and opportunities to be able to detect abnormalities in the prostate as early as possible, thus improving their chances of being treated effectively.

Over the years, the annual Prostate screening has become an important venture in Men’s health. In 2014, we were overwhelmed with the large turnout of men within the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. 495 males participated, an increase of 127 over the number of participants for 2013 – 368. Among the 495 clients who attended, there was an abnormality rate detection of 7.67% with a cancer detection rate of less than 1%

In 2014, the predominate age group was 50 – 59 with an attendance rate of 38.13% This was followed by the 40 – 49 age group with an attendance of 30.98%. We are targeting males between the ages of 40 – 75 as prostate cancer seems to be most prevalent within this age group. However, males outside this category especially those with a family history of Prostate cancer will also be given the chance to be screened once they are present..

For 2015, we will be ably assisted by Dr. Brian Cohen, who will be joining us for the 6th time. Dr. Cohen has been practicing at Victoria Urological Associates in North Carolina since June 2008.
