Education Officials Participate in Education Sector Plan Resensitization Project

Basseterre: St. Kitts, Tuesday, June 06, 2023: Senior Leadership within the Ministry of Education met on Tuesday, June 06 at the National Housing Corporation’s Conference Room, to discuss and review the policies outlined in The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Education 2017-2021 Education Sector Plan (ESP).

Mrs. Carla Mills-Diamond acting Chief of Education Planning communicated the reason for this activity, “The Education Sector Plan is really supposed to be the blueprint that is governing what is happening in education over a certain period. The period for this current sector plan is actually 2017 – 2021, but because of the pandemic we had to forego a number of the activities and as a result, we are here to take stock. We want to look at the activities and see what have we accomplished and what is still outstanding.”

Mrs. Mills-Diamond described the nature of the exercise, “We would have looked at the background and having looked at the background we would have come up with exactly where the strategies, plans and policy issues that were addressed in the Sector Plan originated. Today we went through the background, and the overarching goals – there are three overarching goals which are; access and participation; quality and relevance of education and governance matters including planning, management and leadership. Having examined those areas we have reminded ourselves of what the plan was about and the overall objectives”

Sharing the subsequent steps Mrs. Mills-Diamond conveyed “Moving forward we will analyze the plan to see what we have accomplished so far, what is still outstanding and what is in progress. Having made that determination we will then move on to our annual work plan which will help us to prioritize those program areas and strategies that were actually not completed. Once that is completed we move from the annual work plan to having a mini strategic plan depending on how many program areas are still outstanding which will then inform what we are going to do for the next five years.”

The resensitization and ESP review will end on Thursday, June 08, 2023
