TURKEYEN, Greater Georgetown, Guyana (CARICOM) — Efforts continue to intensify to build the capacity of National Statistics Offices, and provide high quality statistics in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

The latest step in this regard is a consultancy, funded by the European Union (EU) under the Tenth European Development Fund (EDF) CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) and Economic Integration Programme. The consultancy is aimed at improving the production and dissemination of the system of national accounts.

The overall objective of the project is to provide the decision-makers in CARICOM with core, high quality statistics to develop and monitor the CSME. Specifically, the project seeks to build upon the support provided under the Ninth EDF by reinforcing the capacity of the National Statistical Offices (NSO’s) to produce key National Accounts Statistics consistent with international standards.

On Thursday 25 September, representatives of the CARICOM Secretariat will discuss the project during a briefing session. The consultancy will be conducted by GOPA Worldwide Consultants.
