Football : Sugar Girls Off to Winning Start SKNFA Press Release

St. Kitts and Nevis under 17 women’s team got their CONCACAF tournament off to a great start, with a 4-1 victory over the US Virgin Islands, on Wednesday, at the IMG Academy, in Florida.

Sharema Blake scored the first goal of the match for the Sugar Girls in the 15th minute, with a beautifully executed shot into the back of the net

Ten minutes later, Mikayla Gumbs added a second goal, to give the Sugar Girls a 2-0 halftime lead.

Unfortunately, team Captain Malaika Rouse, scored an own goal in the second half, in the 56th minute, but Trisha Nisbett and star striker, Jahzara Claxton, ensured that the St. Kitts-Nevis team, remained in the driver’s seat, adding two more goals in the 77th and 4th minute of stoppage time, respectively.

Despite feeling elated over the win, Coach Earl Jones indicated that the girls can still do a lot better, as there is still a lot of room for improvement.

Captain of the team, Malaika Rouse, is confident that her team will excel in the tournament.
The Sugar Girls will next play Suriname on Friday.
