Former Governor-General Sir Edmund Lawrence Passes Away at 93

The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis is mourning the passing of Sir Edmund Wickham Lawrence, GCMG, OBE, former Governor-General, who died at the age of 93.

Born on 14 February 1932, Sir Edmund served as the Federation’s third Governor-General from 2013 to 2015. A distinguished economist and visionary leader, he returned to St. Kitts in 1970 after earning a degree in Economics from the University of London and went on to make lasting contributions to the nation’s financial landscape.

He was the founder of the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank and later established several key institutions that formed the National Bank Group of Companies:

National Bank Trust Company (1972)

National Caribbean Insurance Company (1973)

St. Kitts and Nevis Mortgage and Investment Company (2001)

Sir Edmund was also a devoted family man, fathering six children. His vision, leadership, and dedication to national development have left an indelible mark on the Federation.
