Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 23, 2018 – The four persons held for questioning for the murder of police sergeant Leon “Shabba” Powell have all been released without charge, WINNFM reported Wednesday evening.

The 44-year-old sergeant and businessman was operating his bar in Newton Ground early Saturday morning when two masked men, both brandishing guns, robbed the patrons present and demanded money from the officer.

Police said a struggle ensued between Sgt. Powell and one of the gunmen and the second bandit shot him several times about his body. The officer died on the scene.

The persons of interest were taken into custody that same day. A shotgun was also discovered during the massive search effort following the shooting.

The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is offering an EC$50,000 reward in an effort to solicit information that may lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of the persons responsible for the death of Police Sergeant Leon Powell.
