When fuel becomes more expensive, it costs NEVLEC more money to produce electricity. NEVLEC passes some of that extra cost to customers through something called a fuel surcharge.

💰 What is the fuel surcharge?
For the September–October 2026 billing period, the fuel surcharge is:
EC$0.96 for every 1 kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity you use.
Think of a kWh as a unit of electricity.

For example:
– If you use 10 kWh, the fuel surcharge would be EC$9.60.
– If you use 50 kWh, it would be EC$48.00.
– If you use 100 kWh, it would be EC$96.00.

Important: This is the fuel surcharge portion only. Your total electricity bill can include other charges too.
🤔 Why does the surcharge change?

The surcharge is not a permanent or fixed price.
NEVLEC reviews it because the price of fuel can go up or down.
So, if fuel becomes more expensive, the surcharge may increase. If fuel becomes cheaper, the surcharge may decrease.

🏠 How can you keep your electricity bill lower?
NEVLEC is encouraging people to use electricity wisely:
– 💡 Turn off lights when you leave a room.
– 📺 Turn off appliances when you’re not using them.
– ❄️ Don’t run the air conditioner when you don’t need it.
– 🚪 Keep doors and windows closed when the air conditioner is running.
– 💡 Use energy-saving LED bulbs.
– 🧊 Don’t leave the refrigerator door open for a long time.

🧒 The simplest way to understand it:
NEVLEC needs fuel to make electricity. Fuel prices change. When fuel costs more, NEVLEC adds a temporary extra charge to electricity bills. For September–October 2026, that extra charge is EC$0.96 for every unit of electricity you use.

So, using less electricity can help you reduce the amount of the fuel surcharge you pay
