Green Valley Global, Inc. Salutes the Cayon Flow 4G Rockets

Once upon a balmy Friday night on June 17, 2016, in the heart of Basseterre, St. Kitts, a contingent of determined young football players, their esteemed coaching staff and an overly excited cast of supporters relished in the taste of sweet victory. For the first time in 12 years, Cayon earned its place in the sports history books as the youngest team to win the Premier Football cup.

The Flow 4G Cayon Rockets won the cup in the face of multiple adversities.

The Cayon football players will attest to the highs and lows they faced during their journey to the cup. As in most things in life, there has been scrutiny, there has been praise; there has been outright condemnation of the team and serious verbal attacks on the coaching staff as well. Amidst all of this, the Cayon Flow 4G Rockets team soared and the community of Cayon rallied around the team of youthful talent to secure victory.

Friday June 17, 2016 was symbolic for many reasons. After all, how often has the news about a fallen youth from Cayon been the highlight of every media outlet in the Federation?

How often has the conversation about crime among Cayon young men been considered “the norm?”

Surely, the stigma of crime and violence in a once tightly knit community has weighed heavily on the hearts and minds of many young men in their 30’s and under. For well over a decade, mothers, fathers, families, friends, and by extension, an entire community has been gripped by the sting of death perpetuated in part by youth on youth violence. It has been a stain on a community renowned for breeding much sought after talent across all social spheres.

Despite the cloud of despair, hands down, Cayon has been the home of champions for years. Whether in sports or academia, the arts or community building, there is no disputing the fact that amidst all the jabs some may gloriously take at the Cayon community, its people remain proud, spirited people with a penchant for winning. When Cayon wins, the entire community takes prides in its victory, and rallies around the core of our community.

A unifying of our community’s young people trumped all else during the keenly contested 3-1 final playoff against Conaree. The fans came from Upper Cayon and Spooners, Shanty Town and Texas. They came from every corner of Cayon and stood as winners in Basseterre when 11 brilliant football players in near perfect synchrony soared to victory.

Although our community will never get back the sons and daughters we lost through crime, we continue to take pride in the sons we have left. They are our champions who are icons in the eyes of every little boy and every little girl.

Green Valley Global, Inc. extends sincere congratulations to ALL of the players, coaching staff and diehard fans. Savor the victory and ready yourselves for the next season of competition.

Your collective victory is a powerful accomplishment. Be reminded that that “Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision.
