Grenada remains unbeaten in Windwards Under-19 tourney

ROSEAU, COMMONWEALTH OF DOMINICA; SUNDAY JUNE 30, 2019 – Hosts Dominica lost to Grenada by 51 runs at Benjamin’s Park, while Saint Lucia bounced back from a previous day loss to defeat St. Vincent and the Grenadines by six wickets at the Windsor Park on Sunday June 30, 2018 as the 2019 WINLOTT Windward Islands Under-19 Cricket Tournament continued.

At Benjamin’s Park, Dominica won the toss and decided to field. Grenada led by Teddy Bishop with 40, totalled 203 all out in 49.4 overs. Over contributors to the total was Seandell Regis 30, Josh Edmund 29, and Jamie Buddy 21, with 18 extras made of 4 byes, 1 leg-bye, 12 wides, and 1 no-ball.

Bowling for Dominica, Jedd Joseph took 2 for 23, Savio Anslem 2 for 35, and Malakai Xavier 2 for 36, with a wicket apiece for Nigel Jno Lewis and Delany Alexander.

Grenada lost wickets at 46, 71, 121, 146, 146, 146, 166, 195, 197, all out 203.

Dominica in reply, despite a fighting 61 by Taj Tavernier, fell 51 runs short of the target – 152 all out. Malakai Xavier made 37, and Aanakym Moreau 13. Extras was a healthy 21 made of 2 byes, 4 leg-byes, 13 wides, and 2 no-balls.

Sunil Narayan grabbed 4 for 18, Rishaad Daniels 3 for 44, and Ronel Williams 1 for 22, as Dominica lost wickets at 08, 57, 132, 137, 139, 139, 150, 150, 150, all out 152, to give Grenada victory by 51 runs.

Over at Windsor Park, St. Vincent and the Grenadines won the toss and decided to take first strike, and were dismissed for 125 in 34 overs. Wickets fell at 00, 00, 41, 56, 63, 63, 86, 86, 122, all out 125.

Romando Browne top-scored with 32, Reynolson Hillocks 24, and Kemron Strough remained not out 17. Bowling for Saint Lucia, Simeon Gerson took 4 for 17, Lee Solomon 4 for 22, and Jaden Elibox 2 for 24, with 17 extras delivered made of 1 bye, 14 wides, and 2 no-balls.

In response, Saint Lucia knocked off the required runs for the loss of 4 wickets, which fell at 31, 39, 70, and 113. Ackeem Auguste and Lee Xystus Emmanuel remained not out on 48 and 11 respectively, while Kimani Melius made 25, and Lee Solomon 11.

Kyle Bobb took 2 for 25, Kemron Strough 1 for 28, and Tijorn Pope 1 for 15. 12 extras were delivered made of 11 wides, and 1 no-ball as Saint Lucia secured their first win by six wickets.

Monday July 01, 2019 is a rest day, and on Tuesday July 02, 2019, Grenada and Saint Lucia clash at Benjamin’s Park, and at Windsor Park hosts Dominica and St. Vincent and the Grenadines will do battle; matches begin at 9:00 a.m. (Robertson S. Henry)
