Police Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 27, 2016 (RSCNPF): Members of the Police High Command were very visible in Basseterre communities on Friday (February 26) as joint patrols teams took to the areas of Newtown, the Basseterre City Center, McKnight, Irish town, Haynesmith & St.Johnson’s villages and Shadwell.

Each team was comprised of members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and members from our Law Enforcement partners, the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force and Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise Department.

Commissioner of Police Mr. Ian M. Queeley, Deputy Hilroy Brandy and Assistant Commissioners James, Mitchell and Hughes each accompanied a patrol element and went into a designated area.

Friday’s walk through was in keeping with the police ‘Six Point Plan’ for enhancing community policing and community engagement, and continues the new thrust of increasing presence in our communities. Commissioner Queeley and his team while in their area, engaged youths in the community with regards to how they can play a role in contributing to ensuring a safer neighbourhood.

The teams during the walk through conducted fifteen  empty lots and abandon houses searches, engaged twelve persons of interest and stopped and searched a number of vehicles.

Many persons in the various neighbourhoods echoed overwhelming support for the initiative, and expressed their satisfaction with the performance of the police over the last weeks and urged that this strategy be maintained.
