Honourable Konris Maynard Emphasised the Importance of Cooperation in Support of The Animal Health Bill, 2023

Basseterre, St. Kitts (SKNIS): During the May 02 sitting of Parliament, the Honourable Member for St. Christopher Three (3), Konris Maynard, underscored the significance of collaborative efforts while endorsing the Animal Health Bill, 2023.

The proposed legislation aims to control the movement of animals, animal products and animal-related items into and within Saint Christopher and Nevis to prevent the introduction and spread of notifiable animal diseases within this country and others.

Minister Maynard emphasised the importance of this Bill, noting that the intention is to create a safe place for animal health, ensuring that the Federation’s ability to produce and use animal products is unaffected.

“What I am asking here is for cooperation in the society to facilitate proper implementation of this bill because it requires input from all of us to be vigilant to ensure that we will not be responsible for contributing to anything that can hurt our livestock sector here in St. Kitts and Nevis,” he said

The Bill was successfully moved through the National Assembly by the Minister with responsibility for Agriculture, the Honourable Samal Duggins.
