Photo Gallery/Story: Development Team Puts VPL League into a Tail Spin

It has to be considered the upset of the century.

So mighty was the upset that all of the plans and preparations for the immediate continuation of the Village Premier league, have been placed into a tail spin.
Chief coordinator of the league, Michael WISE Herbert, is overjoyed though, that things are not necessarily going as planned.
The league continued on Sunday 14th April with two matches, witnessed by a bumper crowd.

In match one, the powerful Jah bass team, comprising mainly of past veterans of the senior Nevis team, engaged the youthful development team, comprising of mainly primary schoolers and early high schoolers. This team has been coached by Lemuel Pemberton and would have lost all of the matches played so far.

It was highly expected that coming up against the powerful JahBass team, that the end result could be written, even before the game started.

But wait!
Cricket is still a funny old game.

The young team batted first and surprised everyone, by getting to 120 in their allotted overs, with young Tyson entertaining with a sparkling 39.
Even then, it was expected that the Willet brothers and the in form Bernette NUTSY Thompson, would knock that off in a few overs.
However, when Tonito Willet, was brilliantly caught by young Smithen (son of Carlon Smithen-some say the catch of the league so far), it started a slide for the JahBass team and they eventually struggled to 105 in their allotted overs.

The youthful team had indeed won.

Compound that with the fact that the Guyanese team won in the feature match, over the more fancied King’s X1 and so the organizers had to hurriedly postpone the planned semifinals, already set for this coming Sunday, as the Development team will now have to face off with the Guyanese to determine the fourth team in the semifinals.
SDA Jets lead the points table, so whichever team wins, will engage the Jets in the semifinals, now set for April 28th.

The other teams to have already secured semifinal berths are: JahBass team and King’s X1.

The final is now set for Sunday 5th April.

Herbert took the opportunity to thank the many sponsors of the league so far and reminded that the winner of the final, will receive $1,000.00, complements of Hon. Vance Amory and Pam Barry, while the second placed team will collect $500.00, complements of Hon. Eric Evelyn.
