Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for:
Anguilla and Barbuda
St. Martin and St. Barthelemy
Saba and St. Eustatius
Sint Maarten
A Tropical Storm Watch means tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, generally within 48 hours.
Residents of the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Turks and Caicos, and the southeastern Bahamas should closely monitor Erin’s progress.
FORECAST & OUTLOOK
Erin is expected to continue moving west-northwest through the weekend, with some slowing in forward speed. On its current track, the centre will likely pass just north of the Northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
Winds are expected to strengthen steadily, and Erin could become a major hurricane by the weekend.
Current Wind Extent:
Hurricane-force winds: up to 25 miles (35 km) from the centre
Tropical-storm-force winds: up to 115 miles (185 km), mainly to the north of the centre
HAZARDS
Rainfall: Outer bands will bring 2–4 inches of rain, with isolated totals of 6 inches, to the Northern Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico through Sunday. This may cause flash flooding, urban flooding, and possible landslides.
Wind: Tropical storm conditions possible in the watch areas by early Saturday.
Surf: Dangerous swells and rip currents will affect the Northern Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico this weekend, spreading westward next week.
