India has taken a convincing lead in the T20 series against the West Indies after securing an eight-wicket victory in the opening match on Tuesday, October 6.

The West Indies won the toss and batted first, with opener Kamil Pooran making his debut for the team and contributing 12 runs.

The hosts were led by impressive half-centuries from Sherfane Rutherford, who scored 56, and Shai Hope, who added 52. Despite their efforts, the West Indies were bowled out for 171 in 19.1 overs.

Naman Dhir was the pick of the Indian bowlers, claiming three wickets for 31 runs.

In reply, India lost two early wickets but quickly regained control of the match. Captain Shreyas Iyer produced a commanding unbeaten century, scoring 102 not out, while Ishan Kishan remained unbeaten on 37.

The pair guided India to 172 for two, completing a comprehensive eight-wicket victory and giving India an early advantage in the series.
