Charlestown-Nevis—International men’s day will be celebrated worldwide, on Thursday 19th November.Pastor Wayne Maynard of the Gender Affairs division of the Social Services Department, indicated on Friday that there was a lot in store for the men of Nevis, as the spotlight will be shone on them, during the month of November.
The Gender Counsellor at the Social Services Department sees his role as a Counsellor working well with and complimenting his more dominant role as a Pastor.
He noted that the activities should serve to commend men for their significant contributions to the society and challenge them to continue to be leaders of note within their communities.
The international theme for this year is: ‘Working to expand reproductive options for men.’
However, the local theme that has been created is: ‘Man up—take a stand-lead by example.’
Some of the activities for the month include:
• Highlighting two exemplary men within the community. One has been honoured so far, in Egbert Clarke of Gingerland, Nevis. His profile was also read on VON radio, during a special program. The other individual will be revealed later in the month.
• Selected men within the community will lead out in the presentation of the VON Radio’s morning devotional program, during the week 16th to 20th November
• Sunday 15th November –A service of thanksgiving at the Shiloh Baptist church, starting at 11am. All men and their families are cordially invited.
• Thursday 19th November at 7 pm –A night to remember at the Franklyn Browne community Center. It will be a fun night and one of challenge and interaction. Pastor Euclid Lawrence will also deliver a motivational address. There will also be games; surprises and prizes.
• Saturday 21st November—A health walk and breakfast. It commences at the Villa and the walkers will go towards the Bath cemetery along the main road; across the Stuart Williams drive and down the by pass road, then back to the Villa. This will be followed by a healthy breakfast.
• Saturday 28th November-Cook out at Paradise Beach starting at 11am.
Pastor Maynard saluted his fellow workers at the Department of Social Services for coordinating the activities and for their dedication and sacrifice in making the men on Nevis recognize how special they are.
