In a commanding performance, Jamaica Women clinched a six-wicket win against Barbados Women in the West Indies Women’s Twenty20 Blaze, propelled by a formidable bowling display from Chinelle Henry and composed batting led by Rashada Williams.
The match, held at Warner Park in St Kitts, saw Jamaica Women dismiss Barbados for a mere 63 runs in 17.3 overs, with Henry spearheading the attack with impressive figures of four wickets for nine runs from 3.3 overs. Former West Indies Women’s captain Stafanie Taylor also contributed significantly, claiming two wickets for nine runs in her three overs.
Despite a modest total, Williams’ steady innings of 21 provided the foundation for Jamaica’s successful run chase. While no other Jamaican batsman reached the 20-run mark, their collective effort ensured a comfortable victory, marking their third consecutive win in the tournament and keeping them on track for a potential double crown.
Barbados’ Nai-Janni Cumberbatch top-scored with 25 runs but lacked support from her teammates as the Jamaican bowlers dominated proceedings.
A remarkable hat-trick from pacer Jahzara Claxton
In another fixture of the day, Leeward Islands secured a thrilling four-run win against Guyana Women, courtesy of a remarkable hat-trick from pacer Jahzara Claxton in the final over. Despite a valiant effort from Shabika Gajnabi, who scored 44 runs for Guyana, they fell short in their chase of 105 runs, losing their last seven wickets for just 14 runs.
Trinidad & Tobago Women also emerged victorious, claiming a hard-fought two-wicket win against Windward Islands Women. Djenaba James played a pivotal role, top-scoring with 43 runs to guide Trinidad & Tobago to victory after restricting Windward Islands to 81 runs.
With these results, Jamaica Women remain in contention for a regional double crown, aiming to replicate the success achieved by Barbados Women in previous tournaments.
