Joycelyn Liburd Primary celebrates 35th Anniversary; recognises longest serving teacher

NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (OCTOBER 10, 2013) – As part of the 35th Anniversary celebrations, students and teachers at the Joycelyn Liburd Primary School in Gingerland commemorated the milestone with a show of appreciation to their longest serving teacher, Mrs. Evelina Claxton.

The Joycelyn Liburd Primary School’s 35th Anniversary was celebrated on October 9, 2013 and at a special assembly Mrs. Claxton had a poem read in her honour and was presented with a gift for her years of service to the school. At a brief ceremony hosted at the school, Claxton expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the teachers and students at the school for their recognition and show of appreciation.

“Thank you very much, it is a pleasant surprise I am over-whelmed. Thank you very much, I really do appreciate it,” she said.

During the ceremony, the school’s patron and former principal, Mrs. Joycelyn Liburd also took part in the celebration and used the opportunity to donate a cash award to the school for use in its operations. She also congratulated the students and teachers on the occasion of the school’s anniversary.

“These are difficult days, money is scarce but I did look here and there and took out a little bit so that she [headmistress] can buy something for you so congratulations and best wishes,” she said.

Other brief remarks came from former students and teachers at the School who reminisced on the school’s success over the years.

Also present was Principal Education Officer (PEO) at the Department of Education, Mrs. Palsy Wilkin who congratulated the students, teachers and school on the milestone.
