JUNIOR Franchise Tournament to commence shortly.

A brand new franchise Cricket tournament is set to commence On Nevis on Sunday 21st May.

Stuart Williams, Coach at the Sports Department, on Wednesday, elaborated on the upcoming tournament.

He indicated that the tournament is an initiative of the Ministry of Social Development/The Department of Sports and is set to commence on Sunday 21st May and will be played over three consecutive weekends, climaxing with a grand finals.

Matches will commence at 1.30 pm and will all be played at the ET Willet Park.

He indicated that in order to ensure that the teams are competitive, the five parishes were not utilized as single entities and so three teams have been selected:

  1. CENTRAL-comprising of players from St. Paul’s
  2. EASTERNS-comprising of players from St. John’s and St. George’s
  3. WINDWARD-comprising of players from St. Thomas’ and St. James’.

The preliminary matches will be of 30 overs duration per team, as Williams noted that they do not want the players to get into a T-20 mode.

The finals will be of 40 overs per team duration.

The tournament is being sponsored by Pennyless Auto Parts who have provided magnificent trophies for the winners:

  • Winning team
  • Batsman with the most runs
  • Bowler with the most wickets
  • Best Wicket keeper
  • Best fielder

A meeting was held at the ET Willet Park on Wednesday during which the players were briefed on the rules and general guidelines of the tournament by Director of Sports, Jamir Claxton and Coordinators of the tournament, Stuart Williams and Carl Tuckett.
