Prime Minister-elect Kamla Persad-Bissessar announced her intention to fulfil the United National Congress (UNC) promises during her victory speech at UNC headquarters in Chaguanas.
Using the party’s tagline, “When UNC wins, everybody wins,” Persad-Bissessar expressed her gratitude to voters, candidates, and party staff for their contributions to the victory.
“I started this campaign by saying you would be the real heroes in this story. I conclude this campaign by saying the same,” she remarked.
“Thank you for showing up. Thank you for staying the course and believing in our great party. Thank you for your support and confidence.”
She emphasized that the victory demonstrates that it is the people, not wealthy financiers or elites, who ultimately decide the country’s fate.
“This victory is for senior citizens who will keep their pensions. This victory is for public servants who deserve their rightful salary increases. This victory is to reopen the children’s hospital. This victory is to reinstate Petrotrin. This victory is to provide laptops to our children once again and to create over 50,000 jobs.”
The People’s National Movement (PNM) has conceded the election, anticipating retaining between ten to twelve seats. However, preliminary numbers indicate that the PNM has retained 14 seats, while the UNC has secured 25.
