Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas although his St. Kitts Nevis Labour Government has built over 4,000 homes for families, it will continue to ensure adequate sheltering of the people.

The previous PAM Administration of Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Sir Kennedy A. Simmonds built some 350 homes in its 15-year term in office.

“There is a lot of challenge out there for our people and this government will identify those challenges and develop programmes and policies as to how we will tackle them,” said Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas on Tuesday.

He said his government remains committed to ensure that people are properly housed.

“There is a major problem of housing and we continue to give a commitment despite the nearly 4,000 plus houses that we have already built, because we cannot rest until we resolve the housing issues for our people,” said Dr. Douglas on his weekly radio programme “Ask the Prime Minister.”

The previous PAM Administration of Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Sir Kennedy A. Simmonds built some 350 homes in its 15-year term in office. Most of the homes, dubbed chicken-wire homes – by then Minister of Housing, the Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris, had to be refurbished under several plans since the Labour Party took office.

Dr. Douglas said his government will also ensure that the unemployed continue to find gainful employment.

“That is why no matter how much we are blamed, accused, challenged or vilified, the People’s Employment Programme for the people will continue,” said Dr. Douglas.
