LEEWARDS LOSE EPIC CONTEST

Another enthralling cricketing battle between the Leewards and Windward islands, has been recorded in the cricketing history books.

The final day of the regional contest between the Leewards Hurricanes and the Windwards Volcanoes, proved to be a very entertaining one for the cricket lovers in Dominica.

The Windwards started the day on 311 for 6 with an overall lead of 345 and took no chances, refusing to declare, as captain Liam Sebastien decided to bat on.

The Windwards eventually declared at 333 for 8, setting the Leewards team a target of 368, which even though highly unlikely, would have caused a few heart murmurs within the Windwards’ camp, based on the Leewards’ recent track record versus the Guyana Jaguars.

The Leewards started enterprisingly, with Captain Kieran Powell making his intentions clear, as he blazed a quick 43, before perishing.

At 99 for 4, things looked dicey for the Leewards team but Anguillans Jamar Hamilton and Chesney Hughes got together in an exciting partnership, which saw the heads of the Windwards players already drooping.

However, with the departure of Hughes, it was as if the cat had been let among the pigeons and the Leewards eventually succumbed at 273
