LEEWARDS MASTERS’ TOURNAMENT 2016-CONFIRMED FOR ST.CROIX

After Antigua and Barbuda indicated that they were having difficulties in hosting the 2016 Leeward Islands Masters Cricket, tournament, a suggestion was raised that the next island in line could take on that responsibility.

The next island in line, scheduled previously to host the 2017 tournament, St.Croix, then readily agreed to host the 2016 tournament instead.

This raised a virtual ant’s nest and after much debate and many emails later, President of the Leeward Islands Masters’ Cricket Association, Mr. Alkins Rogers, has indicated that St.Croix will indeed be the 2015 host of the prestigious tournament.

Mr. Rogers in his release stated:

“This is to advise that the 2016 Leeward Islands Masters Cricket Tournament will be held in St.Croix.

On behalf of the executive and members of the Leeward islands Masters Association, LIMCA, I want to sincerely thank St.Croix for accepting the challenge to host once Antigua & Barbuda were unable to host. Thank you.

We now must start out preparation for what promises to be yet another exciting tournament in St.Croix. The St. Croix Association has indicated that the dates they have selected are the Memorial weekend May 27 to 30 2016.”

The St.Croix Masters’ Cricket Association in response, stated:

·  ‘We appreciate the opportunity to host the 2016 Leeward Islands Masters Tournament in St. Croix and very pleased that the participating countries have agreed.

We will commence now with the preparations in order to provide a successful Tournament for all.’

If we can be of assistance, please do not hesitate contact us.’

It is understood that some of the participating islands had a major concern that some of their players did not have US visas.

President of the Nevis Masters’ Cricket Association, Franklyn KUT Daniel is elated at the decision.

‘I think it is the best decision going forward. We have started our fund raising efforts and one of the big prizes for a raffle we are holding, is a return trip to St.Croix for the lucky winner,’ he said.

Nevis is the current three- peat champion of the tournament.
