Local entertainer and entrepreneur ‘Watusi loses battle with cancer

(CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS)- Nevis’ well known reggae artist, entertainer and entrepreneur David ‘Watusi’ Wade from the community of Bath Village, died today, Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at the Alexandra Hoapital, after losing an intense battle with cancer. He had been hospitalized a few weeks prior to his death.

‘Watusi’, who was also known as ‘By Surprise’ in the calypso arena, has contributed to the island of Nevis in many ways. He was a fixture in the annual Culturama calypso activities. He made such popular hit songs such as, ‘Pot Fall Down’, ‘Bottom Line’, ‘Cow Jump’ and ‘Poor Man Cry’.

He also rendered sterling service in the tourism sector as a taxi driver and tour operator.

‘Watusi’ was also an ambassadorial figure. The video to his song ‘Green Flash’ has been described as one of Nevis’ best promotional pieces.
