Local Forty Overs A Side Tournament Bowls Off

Saturday, 18th May, effectively saw the long awaited commencement of another local cricket tournament on Nevis.
The Nevis Cricket Association got its 40 overs a side tournament underway, with a brief opening ceremony at the ET Willet Park.

The proceedings were ably chaired by President of the Nevis Cricket Association, Mr. Denrick Liburd, who in his opening remarks, noted that his Association has selected four franchise teams, comprising of Nevis’ finest young cricketers, who will compete for a trophy, named in the honour of Nevis’ first West Indies player, Elquemedo Tonito Willet, who was also present at the ceremony.
He thanked the sponsors of the tournament: Main sponsor-NAGICO and other sponsors: Evelyn’s Construction; Pennyless Auto Parts and Tire repair; Grant’s Construction and Stella’s Engineering.
Minister of Sports, Hon. Eric Evelyn, then gave remarks.
He congratulated the Nevis Cricket Association thanked the members for organizing the tournament and pointed out that he has been continually asking the association to ensure that more Cricket is played in Nevis.
He reiterated the fact that Nevis has a lot of cricketing talent, which needs to be developed and harnessed and opined that more players from Nevis, will be going the full distance to the Windies team.
He thanked the sponsors for their contributions towards making the tournament a reality.
He admonished the cricketers to play hard but to respect the officials and wished the teams and the tournament well.
