MARSHALLS DOMINATE ONCE AGAIN

By:Curtis Morton

The Marshalls All Stars athletic club out of St.Kitts, just as they did two years ago, was the dominant force in the annual Nevis cross island relay, which was held on Monday 2nd May.

The event which is the brain child of Nevis’ top Triathletes, Reggie Douglas and James’ Weekes, attracted five teams this year: The Marshalls All Stars; Breath takers; The Four Seasons Resort; The Charlestown Primary School and the Ivor Walters Primary School.

The race commenced at the ET Willet Park, with the first baton being passed off at the Four Seasons Resort entrance.

Other baton stations were located at Cades Bay; Cottle’s Cart Path; Newcastle Police Station; St.James’ Anglican Church; Manning’s Seventh Day Adventist Church; Top of Zion Hill; Pond Hill; Brown Hill bus stop and the race concluded at the ET Willet Park.

A fair sized crowd was on hand to witness the Marshall’s All Stars athlete speed into the Park, well ahead of the other competitors to crush their previous record of two hours and six minutes and create a new record of two hours flat!

In second place was the Breath takers team and in third place in the adult category was an enthusiastic Four Seasons team.

In first place in the Primary school’s category was the Ivor Walters team and they actually came third overall, with the Charlestown Primary school taking the second spot.

The top teams in each category received trophies and medals while all of the competitors received participation medals.

As per usual, the monies raised from the event will be handed over to the Nevis Maternal fund, a NGO which specializes in assisting persons who are ill and has assisted many cancer patients throughout the years.

The athletes were then treated to a sumptuous breakfast, compliments of Boddie’s Cafe, one of the main sponsors of the event.
