(CHARLESTOWN NEVIS)- The Bank of Nevis Ltd held a media launch for its 30th anniversary celebrations, at the Bank’s Headquarters, Charlestown, Nevis on the morning of Tuesday, September 30, 2015.

The event started with the Invocation by Mrs. Bronte Swanston-Hendrickson, Senior Supervisor for Cards Services.

Chairperson of the event, Mr. Ron Daniel who is one of the bank’s Directors, gave the opening remarks. Daniel told those in attendance, that it was indeed a pleasure to be a part of such an incredible institution. He noted that a few days ago, a person indicated to him that he was turned down from getting a loan. However, the way things were explained to the individual left him with a smile on his face. He claimed that even when the bank does not give persons what they want, it is for their best interest and all one has to do is to try again. In closing, he thanked all for their continuous support noting that the Bank of Nevis belongs to all of us.

General Manager of the institution, Mr. Everette Martin also gave some remarks. He stated that as the bank celebrates its 30th Anniversary, it is imperative to remember the first Premier of Nevis and National Hero Sir Simeon Daniel. He indicated that Daniel is credited with the idea of starting the bank and he and the many stalwarts who have served must be highly commended. He pointed out that there is no excellence without difficulty and since the Bank of Nevis opened its doors for business on December 9, 1985, it has pursued excellence despite many difficult circumstances.

Martin also stated that as the bank celebrates its 30th anniversary under the Theme, “A promise kept for 30 years”, the question must be posed, “what is a promise”? He indicated that the mandate is, “To Improve the Quality of Life”, and that is the promise that the Bank would keep through excellence, despite the difficulties and the challenges.

He also noted that it is the quality of a country’s institution that makes an economy works. He continued, “It is indeed the quality of the Bank of Nevis Ltd, as an ingenuous financial institution that has helped and continues to help to stimulate growth on the island of Nevis. It is the quality of this institution and its commitment to the development of the island that has provided us with an excellent road network around the island”. The GM indicated that despite the global financial crisis, the bank has made a continuous effort in making donations to health services, sports, the elderly as well as education via the ‘Dr. Simeon Daniel scholarship scheme’. In closing, Martin thanked the staff, shareholders, customers and other partners for their continued patronage.

Mrs. Janice-Daniel-Hodge, daughter of the late Sir Simeon Daniel, who currently serves as Chairman of the Bank of Nevis Ltd, also gave some remarks. She noted that the going has not always been easy for the bank, but through hard work and dedication it has endured for 30 years thus far. She pointed out that the bank would not have been where it is today, without the early efforts of the founding fathers and those early Directors who have passed on. The Chairman was of the view, that through continuous effort and sacrifice, the next 30 years will be just as prosperous for the Bank.

The vote of thanks was done by Ms. Shirlette Byron, Human Resources Manager at the Bank of Nevis Ltd.
