Miller’s Ton In Vain As Nevis Whips Antigua And Barbuda

An impressive century by P. Miller of Antigua and Barbuda, was not enough to stave off defeat versus arch rivals Nevis, as the 2018 Leeward Islands under 19 Cricket tournament commenced in Montserrat, on Thursday.
Nevis won the toss and decided to take first knock. They were off to a steady start, complements of Shevon Jeffers and Justin Amurdan.
When they both departed, Carlon Tuckett , Trishawn Francis and Skipper Marcus Dubberry, all chipped in with useful scores, but failed to carry on.
Nevis eventually got to 238 for 9 in their 50 allotted overs.
The Antigua and Barbuda team was immediately put on the back foot in their response, as West Indies under 19 speedster, Kian Pemberton, worked up some fair pace, to start the early procession, back to the pavilion.
At one point the Antigua/Barbuda team was precariously placed at 84 for 7, but just as the proverbial ‘fat lady’ was about to enter the Park, Miller put up his hand, in his stand out knock and got great support from Benjamin and Josiah. His effort was even more significant when it is realized that he had a partnership with Benjamin, that was worth 57 runs and he made 41 out of that and another partnership with Josiah which was worth 58 runs and he made 49 out of that.
However, it was a case of ‘too little, too late’, as they eventually succumbed, 32 runs short of the target.
Summarized scores: Nevis 238 for 9 in 50 overs: Carlon Tuckett 44; Marcus Dubberry 33; Justin Amurdan 28; Trishawn Francis 27
