Miss Caribbean Culture Queen Pageant Committee rolls out majestic Nevisian welcome
Organizers of the 2013 Miss Caribbean Culture Queen Pageant have rolled out a majestic holiday weekend of activities which will bring together young ladies of diverse cultural backgrounds from across the region, ahead of the main event set for Monday, August 5.
The Pageant, the brainchild of LIME restaurateur Mr. Randy Jeffers, has been a staple of Nevis’ summer cultural festival, Culturama, for the past seven years.
“The pageant provides a learning experience for the young ladies. They come together, meet, greet, and make new friends while at the same time creating lasting friendships,” pageant coordinator Ms. Hazel Francis has said. Francis said that though the main objective is to win the title, crown and accompanying prizes, there is always that spirit of togetherness when the dazzling beauties from across the region come together on Nevis.
The visiting delegation comprising contestants and their chaperones will begin converging on Queen City Nevis on Saturday, August 3rd where they will be met by the reigning Miss Caribbean Culture Queen Trevicia Adams who hails from sister island St. Kitts. Later that evening a ‘meet and greet’ will be hosted by local businessman Mr. Deon Daniel at the island’s newest exquisite hospitality venue, Hamilton Beach Condos/Villas on Nevis’ scenic west coast.
On Sunday, August 4th, the beautiful Caribbean gems will join parishioners at the St. Paul’s Anglican Church at 9:00am for worship, where Canon Ernest Flemming has gracefully consented to their participation in the service. Delegates will then lunch at Sunshine’s Beach Bar and Grill on Pinney’s Beach before heading out to the St. James’ Raceway for race-day action.
“The action-packed Sunday will also take in an official ‘Welcome to Nevis’ reception to be hosted by Nevis Premier, the Hon. Vance Amory. Later that evening, the delegates will make a special guest appearance at the Miss Culture Queen Pageant scheduled for the Cultural Complex.
Monday, August 5th will begin with a full rehearsal of the Miss Caribbean Culture Pageant at the Cultural Complex. Following the rehearsal, Minister of Tourism and Culture, the Hon. Mark Brantley will host a luncheon a Yachtsman Grill in honor of the delegates. The much-anticipated Miss Caribbean Culture Queen Pageant takes place at 8:00pm sharp at the Cultural Complex,” Francis said.
‘The 2013 delegates will share their accomplishments and various aspects of their respective island’s culture before a live appreciate audience, whose applause and recognition will help to infuse poise and self-esteem – essential features to a lady’s development, at a point when women are making tremendous strides in equal rights and career opportunities,” Francis said.
“Participating in our Miss Caribbean Culture Queen Pageant plays an important role in attaining these goals, and for this reason we are extremely proud of the achievements of all of these young ladies,” Francis added.
Twelve countries, including host country Nevis, will be represented at this year’s pageant. Representing Nevis is reigning Culturama Queen, Denesia Smithen. The other participants are: Jurnalis Henson of Curacao, Rosa Martinez of the Dominican Republic, Montserrat – Kadija Furlonge, St. Kitts – Zinga Imo, St. Lucia – Filamena Day, St. Croix USVI – A’Jada Burke, Guyana – Faydeha King, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – Karla Gellizeau, Dominica – Leslassa Amour-Shillingford, Trinidad and Tobago – Jenelle Thongs and Anguilla – Taitu Goodwin.
