Monument to Honour the Workers of New River Estate

The Nevis Historical and Conservation Society in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism in the Nevis Island Administration has embarked on a project to renovate the New River Sugar Mill to create a historical site that would be of interest to Nevisians and visitors alike. The project involves reconstruction of the stone walls, the building of a new roof and landscaping of the surrounding area. In this connection the NHCS and the Ministry of Tourism are launching a competition for the design of a monument to honour our ancestors who worked on the New River Estate, where the Mill is located. The monument will be erected on the grounds surrounding the Mill. All ideas are welcomed. The competition is open to all persons residing on St. Kitts and Nevis and a prize of $500 will be offered to the winning design. Persons wishing to participate in the competition must do their research of the New River Estate in the NHCS Archives located in Bellevue. Please submit entries and questions to Mrs. Evelyn Henville, Executive Director of the NHCS via email address ehenville@nevisheritage.org

Put your creativity to work, and make your contribution to the heritage sites on Nevis. Deadline for entries is Monday, August 3, 2015 at 4pm.
