More cruise ship passengers visited and more vehicles imported, reports SCASPA

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, OCTOBER 29TH 2013 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis is reporting a 54 percent increase in cruise passenger arrivals in August this year and a 60 percent increase in cruise ship arrivals for the same period.

The St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) said 25,375 cruise passengers disembarked from 8 cruise ships in August this year compared to 5 cruise ships in 2012 which brought in 16,427 passengers, an increase of 8,948 passengers.

SCASPA reports a 30 percent increase in cruise passengers in January to August 2013 from 123,428 passengers from 352 ship calls compared to 95,075 passengers from 333 ship calls in 2012.

SCASPA also reports that 24 yachts visited in August this year compared to none in August last year and 6 in 2011.

Just over 1800 tons of building materials were imported in August this year compared to 1,369 tons in 2012 and 1,090 tons in 2011. Total containarised cargo in August 2013 amounted to 11,766 tons compared to 9,545 tons in 2012 and 9,714 tons in 2011.

Total cargo imported for the period January to August 2013 amounted to 91, 996 compared to 79,616 for the same period last year, I 16 percent increase.
