Morton Receives Surprise Award

When you are told to record a presentation, mid-way into a major athletic meet, the camera man would expect that there is some special person in the audience who will be called track side.
However, when the cameraman is asked to relinquish his post at the camera and come forward to receive a special award, well, that is unprecedented!

Such was the case at the second annual A-1 Farms 5-star relay championship, on Sunday, 27th April, when long-serving sportscaster, Curtis Morton, received a special award for his outstanding work in sports coverage for the last 35 years.

The award of a majestic plaque and an envelope bearing a cheque with an undisclosed sum, was presented to Morton by the husband-and-wife team of Mackie and Fayola Tross, of A-1 farms.
Tross indicated that Morton has covered virtually all aspects of sports on Nevis since 1989 and he wants to show appreciation.

The enthusiastic crowd warmed to the presentation, with loud cheers and shouts of ‘well deserved!’
Morton for his part, who was caught totally off-guard, asked the Tross duo if they wanted to make him cry in public, but expressed his sincere gratitude for such a show of appreciation.
I enjoy doing what I do. I love to make people happy, and when they show me that they appreciate my efforts, it only serves to motivate me further, he stated.’
