Multi-purpose Security Center has implications for professional development of security officers in the Caribbean

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JANUARY 22ND 2014 (CUOPM) – The establishment of Multipurpose Security Training Center on St. Kitts is not only national in scope, but has implications for the professional development of security officers in the Eastern Caribbean.

Permanent Secretary in the Office of Prime Minister with responsibility for the Police and Defence Force, Her Excellency Ambassador Her Excellency Mrs. Astona Browne said the project is an important segment of the National Adaptation Strategy, which makes provision for the security sector with its overarching aim for capacity building, human resource development and the improvement of infrastructure for the security forces.

“The training centre will enable us to fulfill the strategic objectives aimed at capacity building and overall human resource and infrastructural development, as we endeavour to take training of our security forces to another level,” Mrs. Browne said at the ground breaking ceremony for the multi-purpose center.

She said this phase of the safety and security programme that will ensure focused intervention on the three broad strategic areas in the transformation of the economy fully cognizant of the inter-relatedness between security and all forms of development.

The Safety and Security Programme of action will ensure among other things the modernization of the facility and the information package that will form part of the new and upgraded training curriculum. We are therefore optimistic that this facility will usher in the new era for the delivery of security service in the Federation,” said Prime Minister Douglas.

She said that the construction of the state of the art facility which is being funded under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF), will improve the environment of lime Kiln.
