The Nevis Cycling and Triathlon community is mourning the passing of Gordon “Doc” Avery, a much-loved former teammate and a stalwart of the local sporting community.
Those who knew him and had the pleasure of sharing his friendship, camaraderie, and many adventures have received news of Doc’s passing with great sadness.
Doc was more than a former teammate; he was a valued member of the Nevis community whose warmth, character and wealth of life experiences made him a memorable presence. All who had the privilege of knowing him will greatly miss him.
Among the many treasured memories are the wonderful conversations shared over a proper English cup of tea and biscuits. These occasions provided opportunities to discuss a wide variety of subjects and to hear entertaining stories of the adventures Doc and his family had experienced throughout their lives before eventually making Nevis their home.
Those conversations, filled with humour, reflection and fascinating recollections, will remain cherished memories for those fortunate enough to have shared them with him.
As the Nevis Cycling and Triathlon community reflects on Doc’s life and the friendships he leaves behind, heartfelt condolences are extended to Penny, his family and all his friends during this difficult time.
His passing leaves a void in the community, but his memory will live on in the stories shared, the friendships forged and the many moments of fellowship that made him so special.
Goodbye, Doc. Thank you for the conversations, the laughter, the stories and the friendship. You will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.
