NEVIS DEFEATS ST.MAARTEN

By:Curtis Morton

Nevis pulled off yet another victory in the ongoing Leeward Islands tournament when they defeated a stubborn St.Maarten line up at the ET Willett Park, on Tuesday 26th April.

Nevis batted first and found the going tough on a pitch which offered early life for the St.Maarten seamers. Captain Kieran Powell went early yet again and Ross Powell followed soon after.
Duan Webbe then played a sedate hand to team up with a more aggressive Tonito willet to rebuild the innings.

Later, Adelvin Phillip batted superbly in the middle order to help the home team to a competitive 260 all out. Tonito Willett perished on 90 and Adelvin Phillip was bowled for 72, aiming for quick runs at the death.
The main bowler for the visitors was Kenroy David who collected 6 wickets for 53 runs, which included a hat trick in the final over.

When the St. Maarten team batted, they started confidently with Nkrumah Bonner and Martina playing a few attractive shots. However, when Bonner perished, smartly caught by Kieran Powell off Adelvin Phillip, they struggled to get the ball off the square.

Enter Akeem Charles and he smashed the ball to all parts of the ETW, hitting a number of huge maximums in the process.
However, Jason Campbell was again the main bowler for Nevis and he bagged 5 for 36, to pull back the visitors to 220 all out.
Nevis winning by 40 runs.
