CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS — The Ministry of Social Empowerment, through the Social Services Seniors Division, has recognised eight outstanding seniors for their invaluable contributions to the development of Nevis through its annual “You Are Not Forgotten” Awards initiative.
Held on October 6, 2026, the awards formed part of the Division’s commitment to honouring senior citizens whose dedication, service, and accomplishments have helped shape communities and advance key sectors across the island.

ations. The “You Are Not Forgotten” Awards initiative recognises individuals whose years of hard work and commitment have made a lasting difference in the lives of others and the continued development of Nevis.
Representatives from the Ministry of Social Empowerment, staff members of the Social Services Seniors Division, and members of the Seniors Recreational Group participated in the presentation of awards to the eight recipients, celebrating their achievements and contributions.
The 2026 awardees were recognised for their service in the following areas:
Ms. Gweneth Caines — Contributions to the development of healthcare. Her award was accepted by her daughter.
Mr. Donald Hanley — Contributions to the development of pharmaceutical care. His award was accepted by his son.
Mrs. Alice Charles — Contributions to the development of the Bath community.
Mr. Kennedy Powell — Outstanding contributions to community services.
Mr. Augustine Merchant — Contributions to the development of agriculture.
Mr. Rudolph Jones — Outstanding work in the field of mechanics.
Mrs. Althea Jones — Contributions to the development of the education sector.
Mr. Benjamin Williams — Contributions to the development of the farming sector.
Each recipient represents a legacy of dedication, resilience, and service. Their contributions have helped strengthen Nevisian communities and support the island’s social and economic development. The awards also serve as a reminder of the importance of recognising and preserving the knowledge, experience, and achievements of older persons.
The Social Services Seniors Division expressed sincere appreciation to its valued partners, St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank, Republic Bank, and Nevis Cooperative Credit Union, whose support helped make the awards possible.
