Nevis Masters Win Over St. Maarten Masters in Nail Biter

The first match of the 2017 edition of the Leeward Island’s Masters Cricket tournament, was played at the brand new venue, located at Red Hook in St. Thomas, on Friday 26th May.

Nevis engaged St.Maarten and was sent in to bat on the virgin territory. Due to the late start, the match was originally scheduled for 15 overs with no cut off time established. At the beginning of the 13th over, one of the umpires informed the two captains that it was indeed the last over.

Nevis got to 98 for 5.

St.Maarten lost wickets regularly but still seemed on course for victory. However, superb bowling at the death by Wendell Wallace and Curtis Morton, complemented an aggressive burst by Elroy David at the top of the innings, to restrict them to 97 for 7.

The St. Maarten team required 9 runs to win and 8 runs to tie from the last over bowled by Wendell Wallace and managed only 7 to lose by a mere one run in the nail biter.
