Nevis Ministry of Agriculture honours its 2022 agriculture and fisheries contributors

NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (June 05, 2023) — The Ministry of Agriculture in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) recognised a number of its staff members and persons involved in the agriculture and fisheries sector, at its Agriculture Awards and Dinner on June 01, 2023.

The event which was held at the Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park, brought to an end the 11th Agriculture Awareness Month which commenced on May 01, 2023.

During the event, Mr. Collin Huggins, Patron for Agri-Expo 2023 was honoured for his dedicated and outstanding service to the Fishing Industry; while the Agro-Processing Unit was named as the Department of Agriculture’s Division of the Year.

Mr Dexter Morton emerged as Livestock Farmer of The Year for 2022; Mr Godwin Browne as Crop Farmer of The Year for 2022; Mr Wilbert Perkins as Fisher for The Year for 2022; Mrs Sarah Ghandeo as Woman Farmer for The Year 2022; Ms Angela Williams as Greenhouse Famer for The Year 2022; and Mr Alison Jones as The Butcher of the Year for 2022.

In addition, Mr Lorenzo Ferlance was honoured for his outstanding service to the Department of Agriculture Small Farms Equipment Pool Unit for 2022; Mr Nabil Browne for his outstanding service to the Department of Agriculture Extension Division (Indian Castle Estate) for 2022; Ms Turza Nieunkirk was honoured for her outstanding service to the Department of Agriculture Extension Division (Potworks Estate); Ms Kelva Liburd was honoured for outstanding service to the Department of Agriculture Larinson Parry Agricultural Depot for 2022.

Mr Lennox Brookes was honoured for his outstanding service to the Department of Agriculture Abattoir Division for 2022; Mr Vaughn Sturge for outstanding service to the Department of Agriculture Department of Marine Resources for 2022; Mr Elary Jeffers for outstanding service to the Department of Agriculture Cades Bay for 2022; Mr Charles Powell for outstanding service to the Department of Agriculture Extension Division (Prospect Estate) for 2022; and Mr Abdue Kelly for outstanding service to the Department of Agriculture Extension Division (New River Estate) for 2022.

Mr Vincent Francis was honoured for outstanding service to the Department of Agriculture Agro-Processing Unit for 2020; Ms Vincia Sturge was honoured for outstanding service to the Veterinary Division for 2022; Ms Tamara Mils was honoured for her outstanding service to the Department of Agriculture Propagation Unit for 2022; and Mr Peter Edwards was honoured for outstanding service to the Department of Agriculture Extension Division for 2022.

Meantime, Ms Susan Paul; Ms Sherilyn Claxton; Mrs Venelda Dore; Mr Garfield Griffin; Mrs Shermel England; Mr Ronald King; Mrs Carvet Taylor; and Ms Melissa Allen were each honoured for their significant contribution and commitment to the Department of Agriculture.
