NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (April 21, 2017) — The following is a statement from the Ministry of Health in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) regarding ongoing works at the Alexandra Hospital.
The Ministry of Health, Nevis Island Administration, wishes to inform the general public that surgical procedures resumed at the Alexandra Hospital on 21st April, 2017 after a brief interruption on 20th April, 2017.
The Ministry of Health extends sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused. The brief interruption in service was due to the relocation of the Operating Theatre.
The Operating Theatre has been relocated to the area formerly known as the old X-Ray Department. This is part of ongoing works designed to expand the service areas of the hospital.
In a recent interview, the Minister of Health outlined the works to be undertaken at the hospital, some of which are already completed and include:
1 – The relocation of Paediatric Ward
2 – Air-conditioning of the Medical Ward and the Surgical Ward coupled with the replacement of doors
3 – The temporary relocation of the Operating Theatre to the former X-Ray Department
4 – The demolition of the old Operating Theatre building
5 – The construction of a facility to house a new Operating Theatre, a new Private Ward, a new Physiotherapy Department, a new Laboratory, and a Dialysis Unit.
The Ministry of Health seeks the public’s patience during period of construction being undertaken at the Alexandra Hospital. Upon completion, the public and hospital workers will enjoy expanded, high quality and more comfortable service areas.
